Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
Introduction
At Elysian, we take student privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when schools, teachers, and students use our platform. Elysian is currently designed for students aged 13 and older (high school and university), and is provided to schools and districts under institutional agreements. We are committed to complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable education privacy laws.
How Schools Use Elysian
Elysian is licensed directly to schools and institutions, not to individual students or parents. School administrators are responsible for setting up classes and inviting teachers and students to the platform, and for confirming that enrolled students meet our minimum age requirement of 13. Schools act on behalf of their students under FERPA as a “school official” with a legitimate educational interest, consistent with the school’s own privacy notices and policies. Schools may contact us at any time to review, correct, or request deletion of student records.
Information We Collect
We collect information necessary to operate the platform, including:
- Account information (name, school email address, role, and school/class affiliation)
- Daily mood check-ins and optional personal notes
- Responses to wellbeing workouts and questionnaires
- Progress data, including streaks, experience points, and earned badges
- Usage data and platform interactions (e.g., pages visited, features used)
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and improve the Elysian platform
- Track student progress and generate insights for teachers and school staff
- Personalize wellbeing activities and recommendations
- Identify students who may benefit from additional support (see AI & Safeguarding below)
- Communicate with schools and educators about platform updates
- Ensure platform security and prevent misuse
AI & Safeguarding
Elysian uses artificial intelligence in two limited, specific ways:
- Content generation: helping teachers draft wellbeing workout questions, which teachers review and approve before assigning to students.
- Safeguarding review: automatically scanning student workout responses for language that may indicate risk of self-harm, abuse, bullying, or other safety concerns, and flagging those responses for review.
AI-generated flags are advisory only. A trained teacher or school staff member always reviews flagged content before any action is taken — Elysian’s AI does not make disciplinary, clinical, or reporting decisions on its own. Flagged content is visible only to authorized staff at the student’s school.
Student Privacy
We are committed to protecting student privacy. Individual student responses are not shared with other students; only aggregated, de-identified metrics (such as class-wide participation or mood trends) are visible to peers, where applicable, on features like the class leaderboard. Teachers and authorized school staff can view individual student data solely for the purpose of supporting that student’s wellbeing. We do not sell student data, and we do not use student data for targeted advertising.
Data Retention & Deletion
We retain student data for as long as the student is enrolled at a participating school, or as otherwise directed by the school’s agreement with us. When a school terminates its agreement, or a student is removed from the platform, we delete or de-identify the associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate safeguarding record-keeping purposes agreed with the school.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls limiting data visibility to authorized roles (student, teacher, school administrator), and ongoing monitoring for security issues. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Cookies & Analytics
Our marketing website uses cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors find and use our site, in order to improve it. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies via the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Our school platform itself uses functional cookies necessary for login and security, and product analytics to understand feature usage, with sensitive free-text inputs masked from any session recordings.
Your Rights
Students and schools have the right to:
- Access a student’s personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of a student’s data, subject to the school’s record-keeping obligations
- Receive a copy of a student’s data
Requests should generally be directed to the student’s school, which works with us to fulfill them. School staff may also contact us directly.
Future Updates
Should Elysian expand to support students under 13, this Policy will be updated to reflect compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), including verifiable parental consent processes, prior to any such expansion.
